Adding Trace Mineral Salts to Improve Soil Quality

Our mineral soil is used in agriculture, horticulture, and gardening worldwide for better plant growth since 1958. Try our Volcanic Sea Mineral fertilizer.

After more than 50 years, Redmond is always looking for more ways to help growers nourish the world from the ground up. Our newest product, Mineralyte Soil Foundation shares the wealth of the Redmond mineral and volcanic deposit with your soil, your plants, your animals, and your people.

What is Redmond Mineralyte Soil Foundation?

Redmond knows that nourishment starts from the ground up. Simply put, we are what our food eats. Plants grown in nutrient rich soil pass along those benefits all the way up the food chain. Mineralyte Soil Foundation is an OMRI certified organic soil amendment that improves the fertility of your soil to grow healthier, more productive, and more nutrient dense plants. Mineralyte is made of:

  • Redmond volcanic conditioner
  • Redmond sea minerals
  • Humates

Let’s look closer and see what Mineralyte’s ingredients can do for your soil quality.

Redmond Volcanic Conditioner

This weathered, volcanic ash is harvested from the Redmond mineral deposit in central Utah, and consequently, is naturally imbued with a rich profile of our ancient sea minerals. Our volcanic conditioner helps increase the cation exchange capacity (CEC) of your soil and creates a storage of nutrients that your plants can exchange and trade for what they need.

Our conditioner particles have a naturally strong negative charge that holds and stores positively charged cations in your soil. Plant roots can then exchange hydrogen cations for the essential nutrients in the soil that it cannot produce for itself.

Redmond Sea Minerals

Harvested from our ancient sea deposit in central Utah, Mineralyte contains a full spectrum of electrolytes and trace minerals. These sea minerals boost the electrical conductivity (EC) levels in your soil and invigorate the intricate biological and chemical highway system your plants rely on. This influx of energy creates a chain reaction that leads to increased soil fertility:

  • Repopulates soil-based microbe colonies
  • Larger microbe population = more organic matter in the soil
  • Microbes “unlock” nutrients in the soil as they feed, metabolize, and excrete.
  • Without this hive of soil activity, nutrients would remain biologically and chemically locked up in forms that are unavailable to plant roots
  • These stimulated bacteria are a critical part of the nitrogen cycle, that transforms atmospheric nitrogen into a form your plants can use

Humic Acid (Humates)

Humates are rich compounds from fully decomposed organic matter. According to Dr. Robert E. Pettit (Emeritus Associate Professor) of Texas A&M University, humates are essential players in the life and death cycle that moves nutrients through soil, plants, air, and animals:

“The value of humic substances in soil fertility and plant nutrition relates to the many functions these complex organic compounds perform as a part of the life cycle on earth. The life death cycle involves a recycling of the carbon containing structural components of plants and animals through the soil and air and back into the living plant.”

adding organic matter to your soil

Dr. Pettit expounds on a myriad of humate benefits for your soil, your plants, and plant consumers:

Soil Benefits:

  • Improves soil texture
  • Stabilizes soil temperatures and protects soil based organisms from extremes
  • Stabilizes soil water storage and evaporation rates
  • Reduces mineral leaching into deep subsoils (keeps nutrients in the root zone for plants to use)
  • Good source of energy for soil-based microorganisms

Plant Benefits:

  • Plants are more resilient to stress
  • Increases seed germination rates
  • Binds to essential trace minerals and store them for plant usage (see CEC above)
  • Stores nitrogen where plants can use it and prevents leaching into the subsoil
  • Improves root growth

Plant Consumer Benefits:

  • Plants produce higher yields
  • Nutritional quality and density of plant matter increases
  • Reduces the need for NPK fertilizers (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium)

“Continued use of these acidic fertilizers in the absence of adequate humic substances (in the soil) has caused many serious sociological and ecological problems. Man needs to reconsider his approach to fertilization techniques by giving higher priority to soil humus.” -Dr. Robert E. Pettit

How Do I Use Mineralyte Soil Foundation?

Mineraltye is extremely versatile and can be used on gardens, raised beds, pastures, lawns, ornamental grasses, and containers. Once a year, sprinkle the product uniformly over your soil.

One 5 pound bag will cover 250 square feet of soil (about 1 cup every 30 square feet). Mix mineralyte into the soil yourself or allow watering to leach the product into your soil (watering after application will yield the best results).
